The Ethical Co-op is considering trying out Cherrypicka as a form of marketing, and using this excuse, I decided to try it out as a customer.
Cherrypicka allows companies to donate samples of their products. In exchange, Cherrypicka offers them marketing on the site. Customers visit the site, and can buy the samples at discounted rates. They then write a review on the site. Customer wins by getting products well below the usual price (I’ve bought a bottle of champagne, yes, the real thing, for R120). Cherrypicka wins by earning some revenue. Company wins (hopefully) by getting a great marketing opportunity, and connecting with the kind of switched on online audience they can normally only dream of targeting. I’ll let you know how well this third aspect works if the Ethical Co-op decides to go for it.
How fantastic to see an innovation like this coming out of Cape Town. Judging by the comments, there’s already international demand for the service.
The site is well-designed, simple and responsive. The concept is fantastic. Let’s hope it achieves roaring success for all involved. One challenge will be to see how the site can scale (particularly in design) if it starts offering international products as well as just local.
