I’ve been using the company laptop until now, and have been investigating buying my own for when I leave. As always I’ve left it a bit late, as I only have 2 working days left.
Finally, after much prevaricating, I decided on the Toshiba Tecra A2-A, which dropped R2000 in price last month. However, I heard today that all 37 left in the country have been stolen from the Johannesburg warehouse. So expect some Tecra A2-A’s going cheap soon.
Forced into a hurried decision (sometimes that’s what it takes to get any decision from me), I’ve gone with the Toshiba Satellite L10-101. My present laptop is a Toshiba, and I like the keyboard (always important on a laptop), everything else has worked well, and Toshiba are also quite Linux-friendly (Toshiba themselves will install Mandrake/Mandriva or SUSE), so no reason for me to change.
