Yes, I still like Telkom. It’s been 8 fairly event-free months, with nothing more than the usual monthly daylight robbery. However, I recently gratefully received another lesson in anger management.
As many of you know, I’m moving. No, not to Observatory, the signature was never forthcoming, and the slimy landlord (how I love to say that about someone else) decided to pull the plug 4 days before we were due to move, and make a few more bucks packing in some hapless students.
Instead, after a few days rushing around (and which also made another great excuse for my aches and pains) we’ve found a much nicer place in Oranjezicht, with a reasonable garden for the cats and Dorje, and a view that perhaps even beats that of this place. So, we’re moving. And one of the things that needs doing is transferring the phone.
We’ve given Telkom lots of notice. The move is only in two weeks. They know the address. The house already had an ADSL installation. So why in Mammon’s name does it make 8 weeks difference whether the previous customer transfers the account to us, or stops the account, and we start a new one? The old customer, being an efficient sort, has already put their line cancellation order in. If this goes through first, and I don’t manage to get them to sign the transfer order and Telkom to process it, I apparently get to wait up to 8 weeks with no ADSL. Or is this all just a bullshit story spun to me by badly-trained operator of the day? Do I have to resort to the only thing that seems to work with Telkom – shout louder until you get what you want, to sort this out?
Apparently Telkom order is ready. Technicians will call imminently to install. So, they can get their acts toghether. Will KUP 😉
