Using it
The English country template Infobox Country or territory is a good example. It lists basic information such as population, land area, and so on. The phrases from this templat have already been translated, and an equivalent Afrikaans template, Landtabel, been created. This is once-off work (for each template at least) required before you can start using the tool.
Now, you're ready to start. This example creates the country template for Lesotho in Afrikaans.
- Open up the Lesotho page in English (or whichever language you're translating from, if more become available) for editing.
- Copy the entire template, from {{Infobox Country or territory all the way down to the end, }}
- Paste this into the translating tool (the translate text link on the menu)
- Choose the from and to languages (English to Afrikaans in this case), and press the button.
- Open the Lesotho page in the Afrikaans wikipedia for editing
- Paste the result from the translation tool in, and start editing
- There will always be errors and ommissions, so be sure to go through the result manually. Hopefully though you'll find the tool helps you perform the translation a lot more quickly than if you'd done it all by hand!
- As you use the tool more often, and get more familiar with templates, it'll all get much easier and quicker!
