30 Artists in 30 Days number nine is filmmaker TimH. Tim releases short internet films.
While Patreon’s model seems a perfect fit for most forms of art, such as music or writing, which are already seeing the demise of the old models, film, with its inflated costs, is a tough one. Talented filmmakers need to spend so much time fundraising, or arguing details with an overzealous funder. A model such as Kickstarter, which aims to raise significant funds for a single project can be helpful, but the costs are substantial.
So, it’s interesting to see TimH trying out Patreon. His videos are short and relatively low cost, but he’s already well on the way to covering these, so perhaps the model will work for more substantial projects as well.
Tim currently has 53 patrons pledging $844.35 per video on Patreon. Pledge for him here.
